Honest work, no hidden interests

Wau Digital is a small advisory practice in Petaling Jaya. We help Malaysian businesses think clearly about AI tools — without the pressure, the jargon, or the supplier commission that often follows.

Our Story

Where Wau Digital came from

Wau Digital started from a frustration that felt familiar to a lot of small business owners in the Klang Valley. After years of working alongside manufacturers, retailers and service firms, our founder Hafizuddin Rashid kept seeing the same pattern: a business owner would be sold an AI tool, set it up with optimism, and then quietly abandon it three months later because it had been built around the vendor's workflow, not theirs.

The name comes from the traditional Malaysian kite — the wau. A kite has a spine, ribs, and carefully balanced geometry. Take away any part and it stops flying. We liked that as a way of thinking about small business operations: every piece needs to carry weight, and the structure needs to match the wind in front of it, not the wind somewhere else.

We registered in Petaling Jaya in 2022 and have worked with businesses across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Penang. Our engagements are small by design. We are not trying to become a large consultancy. We are trying to be useful to owners who handle their own technology decisions and would like a second opinion from someone without a product to sell.

Our mission

Help small business owners in Malaysia make clear, unhurried decisions about AI tools — based on how their work actually runs, not on how a vendor describes what it could run.

What we do not do

We do not take commissions from software suppliers. We do not recommend tools we have not used ourselves in a business context. We do not sign clients into long engagements when a shorter one would serve them better.

Language and culture

We work in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Customer-facing materials and answer libraries are written in both, because that reflects how conversations actually happen in most Malaysian businesses.

How We Work

Standards we hold ourselves to

Data protection — PDPA compliant

We handle all client data under Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010. Customer conversation samples are used only for library work and are not stored beyond the engagement.

No supplier relationships

We do not hold referral arrangements or affiliate agreements with any AI tool provider. Our shortlists are based on fit alone, and we say so at the start of every engagement.

Written scope for every engagement

Before we start work, we put the scope and the price in writing. There are no scope additions without a new written agreement. This keeps both sides clear.

Staff involvement from week one

For the WhatsApp Reply Desk, a staff member checks every drafted answer during the first month. Automation expands only at the pace the team is comfortable with.

Plain reporting, not dashboards

Monthly summaries are one page, written in plain language, and focused on things that need a decision. We do not fill pages with metrics that require a separate explanation to read.

We recommend doing nothing when it fits

Our advisory process includes "change nothing" as a genuine outcome. If the numbers or the readiness do not support a new tool, we say so and explain why — clearly, in writing.

AI advisory for Malaysian small businesses

The conversation around AI tools in Malaysia has changed fast. Two years ago, most small business owners in Petaling Jaya and the broader Klang Valley were hearing about it at arm's length. Now the same owners are fielding sales calls, attending webinars and being asked to make purchasing decisions about software they have had little time to evaluate.

Wau Digital exists for that gap — between the decision and the understanding. Our work is practical: we look at the hours a business spends on repetitive communication, map that against what AI tools can realistically handle, and return a clear picture of what fits and what does not. We do this in English and Bahasa Malaysia, because that is how most small businesses in this market actually operate day to day.

We focus on WhatsApp because that is where Malaysian customers send messages. Not email. Not a helpdesk portal. A well-built answer library in WhatsApp Business, handled thoughtfully and reviewed monthly, can meaningfully reduce the response burden on a small team without requiring them to disappear behind a script.

For owners who have already made a tool purchase and are wondering whether it is working, the Monthly Review gives a structured outside perspective each month. We read conversation samples, note where the library is drifting from the intended tone or accuracy, and make corrections before they compound. That is useful whether the tool has been running for three months or three years.

Our practice is small and we intend to keep it that way. Every engagement is handled directly by a named team member, not passed to a junior analyst after the first meeting. That is a deliberate choice, and one we think matters more than headcount.

Have a question about how we work?

We are happy to explain our process before any commitment. Most questions are answered in a short call or a few messages.
